Mini Cooper transfer case limp mode

My 2018 Mini Cooper diesel is throwing me for a loop. I’m experiencing transfer case limp mode, accompanied by some pretty unclean gearbox shifts, almost a slipping feeling. I suspect it stems from consequential faults possibly originating within the ABS. Anyone else encounter this, and if so, any ideas on how to approach diagnosing it?

I had a similar issue with my Mini Cooper. The traction control light was on, and the gear selector felt clunky. Have you checked for fault codes specifically related to the ABS system? Sometimes, seemingly unrelated systems can trigger limp mode as a protective measure.

Interesting. Did you experience the gearbox slipping too? And do you recall which specific ABS fault codes you were getting?

Yes, the gearbox felt like it was slipping sometimes, and the shifts were definitely not smooth. I don't remember the exact fault codes, but I do remember the mechanic mentioning something about wheel speed sensors. Honestly, I'd recommend getting it to a workshop that can properly diagnose the ABS system. They should be able to pinpoint the root cause and resolve the limp mode issue.

Just wanted to close the loop on this. It appears the limp mode was indeed a consequence of some ABS faults. After addressing those, everything is back to normal. No cost to me, thankfully! Thanks for the input; it helped push me in the right direction.
