Mini Cooper transmission errors
Summary of the thread
A 2015 Mini Cooper is experiencing transmission errors, including a check engine light, transmission indicator, gearbox slips, unclean shifts, and grinding noises. The error memory suggests a defective automatic transmission torque converter lock-up clutch. A similar issue was resolved by replacing the torque converter, which was confirmed by a workshop diagnosis. The recommended solution is to have the torque converter replaced by a professional.

Engine surge? Clutch problem? What exactly was the cause, and what did you do?

Yeah, turned out to be the torque converter. The lock-up clutch had gone bad. That was causing the engine surge and the transmission issues. The workshop confirmed the issue and replaced the converter. I would recommend going to the workshop.

Took the Mini to the workshop. Diagnosis confirmed: automatic transmission converter defective. Ouch. Total transmission repair cost: 2120€. Thanks for the input.

Strange. Sounds a bit like what happened with my automatic gearbox. Had a similar engine surge issue and the gearbox slipped a lot. Plus, the check engine light was on and off. Did you check the error codes? Could be a clutch problem.
