Mini Cooper transmission woes

I've got a real head-scratcher with my 2016 Mini Cooper. The engine warning light keeps popping up, and the error memory is screaming about a transmission oil pressure sensor fault. To make matters worse, the gearbox occasionally throws itself into emergency mode, shifts are getting sloppy, and I'm even hearing some grinding noises when changing gears. Could a low gearbox oil level really cause all this drama? I mean, a simple pressure sensor issue causing such havoc?

Summary of the thread

A 2016 Mini Cooper is experiencing transmission issues, including an engine warning light, a transmission oil pressure sensor fault, emergency mode activation, sloppy shifts, and grinding noises. The core problem is suspected to be related to a low gearbox oil level, which can cause the pressure sensor to malfunction and trigger these symptoms. The suggested solution is to check and refill the gearbox oil, which resolved the issue and restored smooth shifting.

Transmission issues are a pain, aren't they? I had something similar happen with my Mini, though I can't remember the exact fault code. Was also getting the engine warning light coming on and off. Did you check the gearbox oil level? Seems simple, but it's often overlooked.

Interesting... you mentioned checking the gearbox oil level. When you had that engine warning light coming on, did you experience the gearbox going into emergency mode as well? Also, where exactly is the transmission oil pressure switch located on these cars? I've been hunting around for a diagram, but haven't had much luck yet.

Yup, sounds exactly like what happened with mine. The low oil level will cause the pressure switch to go haywire and trigger all sorts of alarms. Honestly, with those symptoms, I'd avoid driving it too much and get it to a workshop to have the oil level checked and the pressure sensor looked at. Better safe than sorry, right?

Just wanted to give an update. Took it in, and you were spot on! Turns out, low gearbox oil was indeed the culprit. Pressure switch was throwing codes because of it. 365€ later, she's shifting smooth as butter. Massive thanks for pointing me in the right direction! Seriously, couldn't have sorted this transmission fault without your help.
