Mini Countryman ABS and Lateral Acceleration Sensor Issue

Thanks for the quick response. Yes, the diagnostic scan points to a defective lateral acceleration sensor. The error code specifically indicates a malfunction within that control unit. I'm curious though, with your Volvo, was there anything else you noticed besides the ABS light and system failure? Was there any impact on the driving characteristics, or anything unusual during the diagnostic process?

Given that the diagnostic scan clearly indicates a faulty lateral acceleration sensor and its correlation to the ABS malfunction, it does appear that the control unit is defective, as you suspected. From my Volvo experience, the yaw rate sensor replacement rectified all associated issues, and I believe a similar approach should address your Countryman's problem. Given the estimated repair cost, it would be prudent to have the sensor replaced by a qualified workshop. A proper wheel alignment check post-replacement is also advisable.

Thanks for the detailed insight. It seems my suspicion was correct. I've had the lateral acceleration sensor replaced at a workshop, and the ABS warning light is now off. The diagnostic scan confirms everything is back within spec. Vehicle stability has returned. The wheel alignment was checked as well.

Your description sounds very familiar. I had a similar issue with my Volvo a while back, although the root cause might be different due to the variation in vehicle systems. The ABS lamp illuminated, and the system functionality was severely impacted. A diagnostic scan revealed a faulty yaw rate sensor, which, if I'm not mistaken, functions similarly to a lateral acceleration sensor in determining vehicle stability. Have you had a diagnostic scan performed recently, and if so, what specific error codes were present?
