Mini Countryman Active Hood Fault and Airbag Warning

Okay, I am seriously stressing out right now. My 2017 Mini Countryman is throwing up some crazy errors. The on-board computer keeps saying 'Active hood fault,' and the airbag warning lamp is constantly lit. I scanned it, and there's an error stored, plus the spring actuators have been triggered. From what I've read, it might be the acceleration sensor? Is this a car safety issue? I am a bit worried because I don't want a problem with the safety system or the hood latch.

Whoa, that sounds like a tricky one! I had something similar happen with my old Volvo. Airbag light, weird errors popping up... turned out to be a faulty sensor related to the collision detection system. Does your Mini have those active hood lifters for pedestrian safety? Could be related to that too.

Active hood lifters, yeah, it does. The error message specifically says 'Active hood fault' and the spring actuators were triggered. So, what exactly did you do with your Volvo? Did you fix it yourself, or did you have to take it somewhere? Was it expensive?

Yep, sounds like the same kind of issue. With the Volvo, the sensor was sending bogus signals, which messed with the whole system. I wouldn't mess with the hood lifters yourself, especially since the actuators have already fired. Best bet is to get it to a workshop. They'll diagnose the sensor and replace it. It's linked to the pedestrian safety system, so it's best to get it sorted ASAP.

Just wanted to give you an update. Took the Countryman to the shop, and you were spot on! It was the acceleration sensor. All fixed now, and the error is gone. Cost me 315€, but at least my car safety is back to normal. Thanks a bunch for your help!
