Mini Countryman Auto Transmission Issues
Summary of the thread
A 2019 Mini Countryman diesel is experiencing automatic transmission issues, including failure to start, a check engine light, and erratic shifting. The suspected cause is a faulty automatic transmission control unit. A workshop diagnosis confirmed the control unit is indeed the problem, with repair costs estimated around 1000€. The vehicle is expected to be operational again after the repair.

Good shout on the neutral position, hadn't explicitly tried that. As for the shift lock solenoid, how would I go about checking that? Got a multimeter and basic tools, but not sure where to start.

If it's happening in neutral too, and you're getting weird shifting, plus the error codes, chances are it's the control unit. The shift lock solenoid can sometimes cause issues with getting out of park, but usually not the other symptoms you're describing. At that mileage, and with those symptoms, I'd say the control unit is the prime suspect. Best get it checked by a workshop.

Big thanks for confirming my suspicions. Dropped it off at the workshop this morning. They ran diagnostics and, yep, the auto transmission control unit is fried. Quoted me pretty much exactly what I was expecting, around 1000€. Should be back on the road next week. Appreciate the help!

Sounds like a dodgy control unit alright. Does it happen in neutral position too? And did you check the shift lock solenoid?
