Mini Countryman diesel oil pressure issue
Summary of the thread
A 2018 Mini Countryman diesel with 50,433 km exhibited an oil pressure warning light and loud mechanical noises, suggesting a potential oil pump defect causing low oil pressure. The issue was confirmed as an oil pump failure, which was addressed at a workshop. Immediate attention was advised to prevent further engine damage, particularly to the bearings.

The engine oil level is fine. The last oil change was about 8 months ago. I don't think it is the oil pressure sensor. If it were that, I wouldn't expect mechanical noises from the engine. You mentioned your Opel had similar symptoms. Did you also experience loud mechanical noises?

Yes, the noises were definitely there. Like a metallic grinding sound. In my case, it was the oil pump alright. It wasn't pushing enough oil, and things were starting to wear down rapidly. Get it checked ASAP before it does any more damage to the engine bearings. If the oil pump has failed, driving it is a really bad idea.

I appreciate the input. I took it to a workshop, and they confirmed it was indeed the oil pump failure. The engine bearings seem fine for now. Repair cost 755€. Thanks again.

Sounds nasty. I had something similar happen with my old Opel, although it was a petrol engine. Oil pressure light came on, and the engine started making a horrible racket. I'd check the engine oil level first, obviously. Is it at the correct level? How old is the engine oil itself? When was the last oil change? Could be a clogged oil filter starving the pump of oil. Just a thought before you start tearing things apart.
