Mini Countryman Hybrid Knock Sensor Issue

I've got a head-scratcher. My 2018 Mini Countryman Hybrid is throwing a check engine light and running rough. Getting some serious engine knock, especially at low revs. Fuel consumption's gone through the roof, and the idle's all over the place. I've scanned the codes, and it's pointing to a defective knock sensor. From what I've read, it could be a dodgy cable or plug connection, which I've tried to check myself, but I'm no mechanic. Any ideas where to start before I throw money at it?

Sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my Countryman not too long ago. Check engine light, rough idling... drove me nuts! Have you had a look at the knock sensor itself? Specifically, the wiring and the connector? That was the culprit in my case.

Interesting! So, when you say 'dodgy connection,' was it visibly damaged, or did you just wiggle it a bit and it sorted itself out? Was the replacement tricky?

Nah, wasn't visibly damaged, just loose and corroded. Gave it a wiggle, and the light went off temporarily, which confirmed my suspicion. But the problem came back pretty quickly, so I ended up needing to get the connection properly cleaned and secured. I'd suggest taking it to a workshop; they'll be able to diagnose it properly and fix the connection, or replace the sensor if needed.

Cheers for the advice! Took it to a local mechanic and it was exactly what you said: a dodgy connection on the knock sensor. 95€ later and she's running like new. I really appreciate the help!
