Interesting thought about the oxygen sensor. How would I go about checking that myself? I'm fairly comfortable with basic diagnostics, but I don't have a professional-grade scan tool. Any tips for a DIY diagnosis before I potentially start throwing parts at it?

Okay, I'm definitely not the guy to give detailed instructions on checking an oxygen sensor yourself without proper tools. Honestly, messing with the exhaust system or fuel injectors without knowing exactly what you're doing could make things worse. That jerking symptom and the check engine light, though? It really does sound like an exhaust issue. A leak there could definitely cause the engine to run rough. My advice? Take it to a trusted mechanic. Exhaust leaks can be tricky to pinpoint, and you don't want to risk damaging anything else. Better safe than sorry, right?

Just wanted to give you an update. Took the Countryman to my local mechanic, and you were spot on! They found a small leak in the exhaust manifold gasket. Replaced the gasket, and that cleared up the uneven running and the check engine light. Total cost was 265€, which I was happy to pay to have it running smoothly again. Thanks again for your input; it definitely pointed me in the right direction!

Whoa, that sounds frustrating! A check engine light and jerking? Ugh! Is it a really rough jerk, or more like a subtle hiccup? Has it always done this, or is it something new? I had a similar issue with my old car once, and it turned out to be a bad oxygen sensor. Maybe check that? Could also be something with the fuel pump, but I'm no expert!
