Mini Countryman transmission issue

I'm having a problem with my 2011 Mini Countryman diesel. The transmission indicator light is on, and the check engine light is also illuminated. The automatic transmission seems to be in emergency mode, not shifting as usual. It sometimes slips, and there are some grinding noises. The error memory mentions 'Radiator oil pressure defective.' Could a defective cable or plug connection really be the problem?

That sounds quite similar to an issue I experienced with my Countryman. The transmission indicator light illuminated, and the check engine light came on as well. The automatic transmission entered some kind of emergency mode. Do you notice if the cooling fan is running constantly, even after short trips?

I haven't really checked the cooling fan specifically. Where should I be looking? Is it something obvious? Also, did you have any grinding noises when changing gears?

Yes, the cooling fan running constantly was definitely part of my problem. As for the grinding noises, I did experience some unclean gear changes. Given that we have similar symptoms and error codes, I'd suggest checking all cable and plug connections related to the transmission cooling system. However, it might be best to have a workshop perform proper diagnostics and leak detection because these cooling systems are complex.

Just wanted to say thanks for the suggestion. It turns out the mechanic found a defective plug connection like you said. They did a radiator repair and the car is driving normal again. The total radiator repair bill was 95€. Hopefully, no more car overheating issues now.
