Mini One AC Issues Temperature Sensor Suspected

Right, I'm officially losing it with my 2020 Mini One diesel! I've got a solid amount of km on the clock, and now the temperature sensor on the heat exchanger seems to have gone belly up. Error's stored in the memory, message is flashing on the speedometer, and the air conditioning system refuses to switch on. The workshop blokes reckon it's probably the air conditioning control unit that's packed it in and quoted me nearly 1000€ to fix it. Anyone else had this happen? Feels like a design flaw or something. I keep up with all the vehicle maintenance, especially engine cooling stuff, so it’s not like I’ve been neglecting it!

Whoa, that sounds familiar! I had almost the exact same thing happen with my Mini One. Error messages popping up, AC refusing to turn on, the whole shebang. Did they mention anything about sensor calibration? Because that was a big part of my headache. I'm no mechanic, but it sounds like it could be a similar temperature sensor malfunction. How old is your battery? Maybe it is related to that?

Sensor calibration, huh? They didn't mention anything about that. They just said the temperature sensor on the heat exchanger was defective and that the air conditioning control unit was probably the culprit. What exactly happened with your sensor calibration? Was it a separate issue, or did it come up while they were fixing the AC?

Yeah, the calibration was definitely part of it. The new sensor needed to be calibrated to the car's system, if that makes sense. Honestly, I'm not super techy. But the symptoms you described are almost identical to what I experienced. If they're already suspecting the temperature sensor and the AC control unit, it's probably the same issue. Honestly, I'd just bite the bullet and take it to a reliable workshop. Air conditioning problems can be a real pain to diagnose on your own, especially with those error messages popping up. Good luck!

Thanks a million for sharing your experience! I took your advice and went straight to the workshop. Turns out, you were spot on! They confirmed it was the temperature sensor heat exchanger. The bill was hefty, around 980€, but at least the AC is blasting cold air again. No more error messages either. Really appreciate your help!
