Mini One Brake Light Problem Solved

I'm at my wit's end with my 2011 Mini One diesel. It has km on the clock, and the brake light is acting up. I'm getting a brake light failure error in the infotainment system, and there's an error stored in the error memory. Could this be an electrical issue, or is the brake switch faulty? I suspect it might be a bad brake light switch, but I'm not entirely sure. I am not sure about switch replacement.

Summary of the thread

A 2011 Mini One diesel owner faced a persistent brake light failure error, suspecting a faulty brake switch. Despite checking the bulbs, the issue persisted. Another Mini One owner suggested that a faulty brake switch could be the cause, recommending a diagnostic check. Ultimately, the problem was resolved when the owner realized their foot was slightly resting on the brake pedal, triggering the error. Removing the foot from the pedal cleared the error, solving the issue without any cost.

I have a similar Mini One, and I experienced a brake light issue not long ago. Was the error message consistent, or did it appear intermittently? Have you checked the brake light bulbs themselves? Sometimes a faulty bulb can trigger a false error message.

The error was consistent. I did check the bulbs, and they seemed fine. Could a slightly faulty brake switch cause this, even if the lights are working?

Yes, a faulty brake switch is a likely culprit. I had a similar experience, and it turned out to be the switch. However, since the lights are working, it might be a sensitivity issue. A diagnostic check at a workshop could pinpoint the problem precisely. It is important to address this for vehicle safety.

Well, would you believe it? I feel a bit foolish, but I'm also relieved. The brake light issue with my Mini One is resolved, and the grand total came to 0€. Apparently, my foot was ever so slightly resting on the brake pedal. This triggered the error and the warning lights. I removed my foot completely, and after a short drive, the error disappeared. Thank you for your help!
