Mini One charge air temperature sensor issue

My 2020 Mini One is throwing a charge air temperature sensor error. The check engine light is on, and engine power is reduced. I'm also hearing a distinct whistling noise, and a loud hissing sound when accelerating. The error memory confirms the sensor fault. From what I've read, the likely cause is a defective cable or plug connection. Any thoughts before I potentially face a 95€ repair bill?

Summary of the thread

A 2020 Mini One was experiencing a charge air temperature sensor error, leading to a check engine light and reduced engine power, accompanied by a whistling and hissing noise during acceleration. The likely cause was identified as a defective cable or plug connection, possibly due to an air leak in the intake system. The suggested solution was to inspect the sensor's connector for damage or corrosion and consider professional inspection if unsure. Ultimately, the issue was resolved by replacing the faulty sensor, confirming the initial diagnosis.

That does sound like a faulty charge air temperature sensor. I had a similar issue with my Skoda, and it turned out to be a cracked hose on the air intake system, causing a whistling noise and triggering the engine light. Does the hissing sound change with engine RPM? Have you checked the sensor's connector for any obvious damage or corrosion?

The hissing definitely gets louder as I accelerate. I haven't inspected the sensor connector closely yet. Where exactly is the charge air temperature sensor located? Is it easy to access on the Mini One's engine?

Yes, the hissing getting louder with acceleration strongly suggests an air leak somewhere in the air intake system, likely around the sensor or its connection. While I'm not intimately familiar with the Mini One's engine layout, the charge air temperature sensor is typically located either on the intake manifold or on the intercooler. You should be able to trace the air intake pipes from the air filter box to locate it. If you are unsure, it is better to have it checked in a workshop. You don't want to cause any further damage.

Just wanted to update the garage confirmed it was indeed the charge air temperature sensor. They replaced it, and the error is gone. The total cost was 95€. Thanks for your input; it helped me to point the mechanic in the right direction.
