Mini One check engine light and fuel consumption issues

Alright, petrolheads, I've got a bit of a head-scratcher with my 2007 Mini One. It's only done some kilometers, but the check engine light is on, and it's guzzling fuel like there's no tomorrow! The error memory says it's an oxygen sensor heater failure, and I'm guessing it's probably the cable or plug. Could it be something else? Any ideas before I end up forking out a ton of cash?

Summary of the thread

A 2007 Mini One is experiencing a check engine light and high fuel consumption, with an error indicating an oxygen sensor heater failure. The issue is suspected to be a faulty sensor connection or cable. The suggested solution is to have the sensor connection checked by a professional, as it affects the air-fuel ratio and vehicle emissions. The problem was resolved by fixing the faulty sensor connection, costing 95€, and restoring normal vehicle emissions.

Hey, I had a similar issue with my Mini One. Check engine light came on, and the fuel consumption was awful! Sounds like your oxygen sensor is playing up. It could be a faulty sensor or even just a loose connection. The oxygen sensor is responsible for the air-fuel ratio, so a faulty sensor messes everything up.

That's interesting! Where exactly should I be looking for this 'loose connection'? Is it something I can check myself without needing special tools?

I wouldn't poke around too much. It's probably best to get it checked by someone who knows what they're doing, especially since vehicle emissions are involved. But yeah, my problem was a faulty sensor connection as well! The garage sorted it quickly and it didn't cost much. Think of the oxygen sensor like the canary in the coal mine for your engine. If it's not happy, neither is your engine.

Cheers for the help! Took it to the workshop, and you were spot on. Turns out it was a faulty sensor connection on the oxygen sensor, just like you said. They sorted it for 95€, and now the malfunction indicator is off. Vehicle emissions are back to normal. I'm so relieved!
