Mini One Diesel Auxiliary Heater Problem

I am writing regarding an issue with the auxiliary heater on my 2008 Mini One Diesel. With km on the odometer, the parking heater refuses to activate, and an error is stored in the error memory. Based on initial diagnostics, a defective glow plug is suspected. Has anyone encountered a similar problem, and what was the eventual repair?

I experienced a similar issue with my Mini. The auxiliary heater refused to activate, especially noticeable on colder mornings. Before jumping to conclusions about the glow plug, have you checked the temperature sensor readings? A faulty sensor can provide incorrect data to the climate control system, preventing the auxiliary heater from starting. Also, inspect the ventilation system for any obstructions that could affect airflow. I recall someone mentioning a blocked air intake causing similar problems.

Thank you for your input. Where is the temperature sensor located, and is it easily accessible for inspection? Regarding the ventilation system, are there any specific areas prone to blockage that I should examine?

The temperature sensor on mine was located near the front bumper, behind the grille. Access isn't too difficult, but you might need to remove a few plastic panels. As for the ventilation system, check the air intake under the hood and the cabin air filter. If the error memory indicates a glow plug issue, it is likely the primary cause. I recommend visiting a workshop; they can perform a more comprehensive diagnostic and confirm the fault before you spend money on parts.

Acknowledged. The defective glow plug was indeed the culprit, as you suspected. Repair cost totaled 440€. Thank you for your assistance.
