Mini One Diesel Brakes Feel Strange
Summary of the thread
The brakes on a 2007 Mini One diesel were giving strange feedback, described as a slight vibration or inconsistent pressure. This issue was suspected to be related to undervoltage affecting the ABS system. It was suggested to check the brake fluid level and inspect the brake pads and rotors. A workshop visit confirmed that undervoltage was indeed affecting the ABS, and replacing the brake pads and rotors resolved the issue.

Brake fluid level is fine, and I checked the visible part of the brake pads and rotors, they seem worn, but normal. But what does undervoltage have to do with the hydraulic brakes? I thought it was purely mechanical.

Undervoltage can indeed impact the ABS, which in turn affects brake pedal feel. The ABS relies on consistent voltage to function correctly. Given the symptoms and vehicle age, I recommend a workshop visit for a comprehensive diagnostic. They can test the brake rotors, ABS, and electrical system.

Just wanted to update you. The local workshop confirmed undervoltage was messing with the ABS system. Replacing the brake pads and rotors sorted it, and the total came to 240€. Thanks for the help!

Erratic brake pedal feedback on a Mini One diesel could stem from a few sources. The ABS system might be compromised. Have you checked the brake fluid level recently, and when were the metal brakes last inspected for wear?
