Mini One Diesel Engine Problem

I am writing to inquire about a problem I recently encountered with my 2013 Mini One diesel. Lately, the engine will sometimes not start, and on other occasions, it stalls when idling. The check engine light has also illuminated, and the engine runs unusually rough and fuel consumption seems higher. The error memory shows a fuel pump defect. Could a defective fuel pump cable or plug connection actually be the real issue here

Summary of the thread

A 2013 Mini One diesel is experiencing engine starting issues, stalling when idling, a check engine light, rough running, and increased fuel consumption. The error memory indicates a fuel pump defect, but a faulty fuel pump cable or plug connection is suspected. A similar issue was resolved by addressing a loose connection to the fuel pump, suggesting that checking the fuel pump relay, fuel filter, and connections could be a simple and cost-effective solution before replacing the pump.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Sounds like a fuel pump issue. I had something similar with my Mini One. Engine stalling, check engine light the works. Have you checked the fuel pump relay and the fuel filter Could be a simple fix before you assume the pump itself is kaput.

Thanks for the quick reply. Where exactly is the fuel pump relay located and how do I check it I'm not very experienced with auto repair, but willing to give it a try before taking it to a professional. And the fuel filter, is that easy to get to on the Mini One

Yeah, those were my symptoms too. I spent ages looking for a solution. As for DIY I would say get it to the workshop. For me it was the connection to the fuel pump being loose. A quick fix that cost me almost nothing, but only after some troubleshooting. It mirrors the 'cable or plug connection defective' diagnosis you mentioned initially. Maybe worth mentioning to your workshop, so they don't replace the pump right away.

Just wanted to provide an update I took your advice and brought my Mini into the local auto repair shop. You were spot on It turned out to be a faulty connection in the fuel system, just like you suggested. The repair only cost 95€, which I was happy about. Thanks again for your help
