Mini One Diesel IAT Sensor Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2004 Mini One diesel with 183,267 km was experiencing a check engine light, reduced engine power, and rough running. Diagnostics indicated an error related to the intake air temperature (IAT) sensor, suggesting it might be defective. A similar issue was resolved by checking the sensor's temperature readings, which were erratic. The recommended solution was to have the sensor checked by a professional, leading to its replacement and resolving the problem.

That's interesting. What exactly did you see with the temperature reading? Was it way off, or fluctuating wildly?

With my Peugeot, the temperature reading was completely erratic – sometimes showing ridiculously high values, other times nothing at all. Given your symptoms and the error code, it really does point to the IAT sensor. While you could try cleaning it, it might be best to get it checked by a professional. I ended up going to a workshop, and they confirmed the issue. Saved me a lot of headache.

Just wanted to provide an update. I took your advice and brought the Mini to a workshop. The diagnostic tool confirmed it was indeed the IAT sensor. They replaced it, and the check engine light is now off, the engine runs smoothly, and the power is back. The repair cost me 155€. Thanks again for your help!

That sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my old Peugeot. The check engine light was on, and the car felt sluggish. Have you tried using a diagnostic tool to check the temperature reading from the IAT sensor? It should give you a better idea if it's faulty.
