Mini One Diesel Stalling at Idle
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Mini One diesel is experiencing stalling at idle and a check engine light, suspected to be caused by issues with the tank ventilation valve or clogged hoses. Possible causes include a malfunctioning purge valve or a faulty gas cap, both part of the fuel tank ventilation system. The solution involved cleaning the clogged hoses and addressing the tank ventilation valve, which resolved the stalling issue.

Purge valve? Gas cap? Can you elaborate? Where exactly should I be looking? The check engine is annoying.

The purge valve is part of the evaporative emission control (EVAP) system, which prevents fuel vapor from escaping into the atmosphere. It regulates the flow of fuel vapor from the fuel tank to the engine. If it's stuck open or closed, it can cause stalling. Regarding the gas cap, a poorly sealed gas cap can affect the fuel tank pressure which again can cause stalling. If you're not comfortable troubleshooting yourself, I suggest a visit to a workshop.

Just an update. I took the Mini One to a shop. Seems it was the tank ventilation valve indeed, hoses were clogged as suspected. They cleaned it all up. Cost me 175€. Thanks for the help.

I had similar symptoms with my Mini. Check engine light and stalling at idle points to a potential issue with the fuel tank ventilation system. A purge valve malfunction, for example, can cause these problems. Have you checked the gas cap? A faulty gas cap can also trigger these symptoms.
