Thanks for the quick reply! Just curious, did your OBD scanner specifically point to the encoder wheel, or only the camshaft sensor failure? I am trying to understand if I can just get a new camshaft sensor myself or if I need to bring the car in.

The OBD pointed to the camshaft sensor for me as well. But it turned out the root cause was the encoder wheel as it was throwing inconsistent readings. If you lack the proper tools and expertise, a workshop visit is probably the best course of action.

Many thanks for the confirmation. Just back from the workshop. As suspected, a defective encoder wheel it was! New sensor plus labor came to 695€. Runs like new again.

Sounds very much like what I experienced on my Mini. Same symptoms: car stalling at idle and engine misfire. I'd start with sensor testing to confirm the failure. Have you checked for any relevant fault codes via OBD?
