Mini One Engine Stalling Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2009 Mini One was experiencing engine stalling at idle and a persistent check engine light. The issue was suspected to be related to a fuel tank ventilation system leak, possibly caused by a defective activated charcoal filter affecting airflow. After diagnosis, it was confirmed that the charcoal filter was the problem, and replacing it resolved the stalling and cleared the error codes.

I tightened the fuel cap, but the check engine light is still on and the engine still stalls sometimes. The error code points to a problem with the fuel tank ventilation system, specifically a leak detection issue. Could a defective charcoal filter really cause all these problems, including stalling?

It's hard to say for sure without a proper diagnosis, but a defective charcoal filter is a plausible cause. It's part of the emission control system. It can affect the air flow. The stalling and the leak detection error code do point in that direction. I suggest taking it to a workshop.

Just wanted to close the loop on this. It was indeed the charcoal filter. The shop replaced it, and the error codes are gone. The Mini One is running smoothly again. Total cost 275€ Thanks for the pointer!

A fuel tank ventilation system leak could be a few things. Have you checked the fuel cap? A loose cap can cause similar symptoms. Also, is the check engine light still on? What error codes is it throwing?
