Mini One Fuel Filler Flap Problem

Right, I'm completely stumped! My 2005 Mini One diesel is playing up. The fuel filler flap won't open, and the error memory has stored a fault. I've tried everything I can think of, but nothing seems to work. I suspect a defective linkage, and some functions of the vehicle are not available because of that. No cable release that I can find. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm guessing it is the electrical fault with the release mechanism.

The lock actuator is part of the fuel filler flap assembly itself. If the error code points to it and the symptoms match, it's highly probable that it's the culprit. There is no easy way to check it without proper diagnostic tools. I would suggest taking it to a qualified workshop for diagnosis. It's similar to a malfunctioning door lock; you wouldn't try to fix that yourself without experience, would you?

Okay, thanks a bunch for the advice! I took it to a workshop, and you were spot on. The lock actuator was faulty, and the garage confirmed it was throwing an error code. New actuator fitted, the fuel filler flap now opens like a charm, and the error is gone. Cost me around 210€ all in. Cheers!
