Mini One Fuel Filler Flap Problem

Lock actuator, eh? Where exactly is that located? And how would I check it? Is it easy to get to, or am I going to need to remove half the car to get to it? I'm no mechanic but I'm also not afraid to get my hands dirty, but I'm not sure what I should be looking for. Any tips?

The lock actuator is part of the fuel filler flap assembly itself. If the error code points to it and the symptoms match, it's highly probable that it's the culprit. There is no easy way to check it without proper diagnostic tools. I would suggest taking it to a qualified workshop for diagnosis. It's similar to a malfunctioning door lock; you wouldn't try to fix that yourself without experience, would you?

Okay, thanks a bunch for the advice! I took it to a workshop, and you were spot on. The lock actuator was faulty, and the garage confirmed it was throwing an error code. New actuator fitted, the fuel filler flap now opens like a charm, and the error is gone. Cost me around 210€ all in. Cheers!

I also drive a Mini One, though not diesel. I had similar symptoms a while back. I couldn't open the fuel filler flap, and I remember seeing some error messages on the display. It turned out to be a faulty lock actuator. Have you checked that? It's like a small motor that controls the release mechanism.
