Mini One Gearbox Issues
Summary of the thread
A 2017 Mini One is experiencing gearbox issues, with symptoms of slipping and unclean shifts, possibly due to defective gears in the transfer case. The problem might be linked to the condition of the transfer case oil, which, if low or contaminated, can cause gear wear and grinding sounds. A similar issue was resolved by checking and replacing the transfer case oil and gears, leading to improved vehicle performance.

That's interesting How did you figure out it was the transfer case oil Did you notice any other symptoms besides the slipping And how bad was the mechanical wear in your case

Yeah, the slipping was the main giveaway for me. Initially, I suspected the clutch, but the mechanic pointed out that the transfer case oil was looking pretty grim. It's definitely worth getting it checked out by a professional. If the gear wear is the issue, they'll be able to confirm it and give you a proper diagnosis. Don't drive it too much like that, you might make it worse!

Thanks I took it to a mechanic, and you were spot on. It was the transfer case. New gears and transfer case oil change later, and it's running like a dream. Cost me about 330€, but totally worth it to get rid of that gear grinding!

Sounds like a similar issue I had with my Cooper. I also experienced gearbox slips, and it turned out to be related to the transfer case oil. Have you checked the oil level and condition? If it's low or contaminated, it could definitely cause those symptoms. Gear wear can happen over time, especially if the oil isn't doing its job. It's like running an engine without enough oil things start grinding!
