Mini One multifunction steering wheel issue

My 2018 Mini One diesel has developed a rather annoying issue. The multifunction steering wheel has stopped working entirely. I've run vehicle diagnostics, and it shows an error is stored, pointing towards a defective cable connection within the steering wheel itself. Could this actually be the cause, or is there something else I should be looking at? The estimated repair cost is around 95€.

I had a similar issue with my Mini One. The symptoms you describe sound very familiar. Have you had the vehicle diagnostics checked to confirm the error code? It's possible there's a sensor issue affecting the steering controls. Was the error intermittent, or did the steering wheel controls fail completely?

Yes, I did a vehicle diagnostics check and there is an error stored in the error memory, although the exact code wasn't specified. You mentioned a sensor issue. Is that the sensor located in the steering column itself, and if so, is it easily accessible? What exactly failed in your steering wheel controls?

In my case, it was the cable connection within the steering wheel, causing a communication fault. If vehicle diagnostics points to this and the cost is reasonable, replacing the cable connection should resolve the issue. I suggest you bring it to a workshop. They will have the proper tools and expertise to disconnect the steering column safely.

Just wanted to give a quick update. It was indeed the cable connection in the steering wheel that was defective, as suspected. The repair cost exactly 95€, so the diagnosis was spot on. Thanks again for your help, it made me feel much better going into the repair knowing what to expect.
