Mini One passenger electric seat issue

Alright, I've got a bit of a head scratcher with my 2007 Mini One. The passenger electric seat has stopped working. Plugged it into a diagnostic tool, and it's showing an error stored in the error memory, but the seat adjustment is completely dead. I've read that a heavily discharged or defective battery can cause this. Could that be the culprit? Anyone else run into this?

Electric seat problems can be a pain. The error stored in the memory suggests a communication or power issue. Did you check the seat wiring harness under the seat for any loose connections or damage? I had a similar issue with a Volvo where the seat motor wasn't responding due to corroded connectors. Have you inspected the seat motor itself?

Thanks for the reply! I did wiggle the seat wiring a bit, but didn't see anything obvious. Where exactly should I be looking for corrosion? Are there any specific connectors that are known to cause trouble, or is it just a case of checking everything?

The corrosion I encountered was on the main power connector and the connector for the seat position sensor. In my case, the Volvo had water ingress issues. Given your Mini One's age, corrosion is a possibility. However, if the battery is indeed heavily discharged as the error suggests, addressing that should be your first step. Is the car starting without issue? If the battery checks out, then tracing the seat wiring and checking the seat motor itself for voltage with a multimeter would be the next logical step. Ultimately, given the complexity, a workshop visit may be unavoidable.

Just wanted to update this thread. Took it to a local shop. They confirmed it was a power issue, specifically a dying battery causing the error with the passenger electric seat. New battery and a scan to clear the error memory and all good. Cost me 290€, but at least the seat adjustment works again. Thanks for the help!
