Mini One rain sensor issues

Alright, I'm having a weird issue with my 2008 Mini One. It's got about 160874 km on the clock. I'm getting an error stored in the error memory, and the automatic wiping mode in the rain is not working. Neither is the automatic headlight control, and the speedometer dimming is also dead. Plus, the lights switch on. I suspect it's the rain-light sensor, and I think I can see bubbles forming under the gel pad on the windshield. Anyone else had this, or know what car electronics are involved?

That sounds awfully familiar! I had a similar problem with my Mini One. The rain sensor went haywire, and it messed up all sorts of car components. The auto headlights were constantly switching on, and the speedometer dimming was also affected. It's like one electrical fault can set off a chain reaction in these car electronics. Does the light switch on your car too?

Interesting, so it sounds like you had exactly the same symptoms with the auto sensor. Did you also have bubbles under the gel pad on the windshield? I've read that's a common cause, and I can see some on mine. Also, what exactly was the fix? Did you have to replace the whole rain sensor unit?

Yep, bubbles under the gel pad sounds like the definitive problem. It's like the sensor's visibility is blurred, so it can't do its job properly. I'd suggest getting the rain sensor replaced. I did exactly that, and it solved all the problems. It's a pretty common issue. I would advise going to a workshop to get it sorted. They will be able to diagnose the electrical fault properly and replace the car components.

Just wanted to give a quick update. You were spot on! Took it to a workshop, they confirmed the rain sensor was the culprit. They replaced it, and all the issues are now gone. The total cost was 62€ for the new sensor and fitting. Thanks a lot for your help, I really appreciate it!
