Mini One Wiper Problem

I am writing to report an issue with my 2004 Mini One. The windshield wipers have ceased functioning. Diagnostic procedures have revealed an error stored in the vehicle's error memory, which would point towards a defective cable or plug connection. The preliminary estimate for the repair is 95€. I would appreciate any insights or suggestions before I commit to the repair. Could this be a wiper motor issue? Is it likely to be just the wiper switch?

Summary of the thread

The 2004 Mini One experienced a windshield wiper malfunction, with diagnostics indicating a potential defective cable or plug connection. The issue was suspected to be related to the wiper motor or switch. After further investigation, it was confirmed that the problem was a faulty wiper switch, which was replaced, resolving the issue. The cruise control, integrated into the same stalk, was unaffected.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

I had a similar problem with my old Peugeot. The wipers suddenly stopped working, but the washer jets were fine. In my case, it turned out to be a faulty stalk switch on the steering column. Do your wipers work on any speed setting, or are they completely dead? Also, does your Mini have cruise control on the same stalk? If so, is that working?

The wipers are entirely non-functional, regardless of the speed setting. Yes, the cruise control is integrated into the same stalk. I have not used the cruise control recently. I will test it later. Is it possible that a fault in the cruise control section of the switch could affect the wipers?

It's possible, but unlikely, that the cruise control is affecting the wipers. In my case, everything else on the stalk worked except the wipers. Given that you have an error code and the wipers are completely dead, it does sound like a wiring or switch issue. I would advise having it checked at the workshop, especially if they already identified a potential cause.

I appreciate your input. It seems you were on the right track. The workshop confirmed a faulty wiper switch. They replaced it for the quoted price, and everything is functioning normally again. Cruise control is also working, so no further issues there.
