Mini Paceman Airbag Warning Light Issue

I've encountered a rather concerning issue with my 2016 Mini Paceman diesel. The airbag warning lamp has illuminated in the speedometer, indicating a fault within the airbag system. Based on my research, I suspect a defective cable or plug connection related to one of the airbag components is the culprit. I'm trying to avoid unnecessary expenses. Has anyone else experienced something similar?

Airbag warning lights are never good. Is the light constantly on, or does it flicker? Have you tried scanning for any error codes? Sometimes, a simple reset can do the trick, but it's crucial to understand why the light came on in the first place. Especially since it is part of the restraint system, which includes seatbelts and airbags. Has any work been done on the car recently, like a new battery or any interior repairs?

Okay, a constant light usually means a hard fault is present. Resetting via battery disconnect is generally not recommended for airbag systems, as it might not clear the code and could potentially cause further issues. It is almost certainly a cable or plug problem though. Given the symptoms, it's best to take it to a workshop equipped with diagnostic tools that can read the specific error code and pinpoint the problematic connection. That way, you're only paying for the actual airbag repair and not throwing parts at it.

The light is constantly on, no flickering. I haven't scanned for error codes myself, as I don't have the appropriate diagnostic equipment. When you mention 'reset', are you referring to disconnecting the battery? And if so, would that not potentially erase important system data related to the fault?

Dropped the Mini off. Turns out it was a faulty connector, just like I thought. Airbag repair was completed for 95€, which is a relief. Thanks for confirming my suspicion. Vehicle safety is now restored!
