Mini Paceman crankshaft camshaft reference issue

I am experiencing a crankshaft to camshaft reference value issue with my 2016 Mini Paceman. The check engine light is illuminated, and the vehicle exhibits reduced engine power, poor engine response, and increased fuel consumption. Based on preliminary diagnostics, a defective crankshaft sensor is the likely cause. Could this be related to the timing belt or timing chain? Has anyone else encountered similar symptoms?

I had similar symptoms in my Paceman. The engine light was on, and the performance was noticeably poor. Did you check the timing chain? In my case, the camshaft position sensor was also faulty, which caused misfire issues and triggered the engine light. It might be worth investigating.

That's interesting. When you experienced the camshaft position sensor issue, did it also throw off the crankshaft to camshaft reference value? I'm trying to ascertain if the crankshaft sensor alone is the culprit, or if there might be a deeper issue with the timing.

Yes, the camshaft issue definitely affected the crankshaft reference value. The garage confirmed that the timing was slightly off, likely due to the faulty sensor sending incorrect signals. I would recommend taking it to a workshop to get a proper diagnosis and avoid potential engine damage.

I appreciate your insight. The diagnosis was indeed a defective crankshaft sensor, as suspected. Repair cost me 340€. I'm relieved the engine light is off and the Paceman is back to its normal performance. Thank you again.
