Mini Paceman Diesel Engine Stalling Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2015 Mini Paceman diesel is experiencing engine stalling and a persistent check engine light. The issue is suspected to be related to the emission control system, specifically a defective activated charcoal filter within the EVAP system. This problem affects the fuel tank ventilation and air-fuel mixture. The recommended solution is to have the vehicle diagnosed and repaired by a professional, which successfully resolved the issue by replacing the faulty charcoal filter.

EVAP system, huh? I've heard that term thrown around. So, you think it's something to do with the fuel tank ventilation? And what do you mean about the air flow? Is there anything I can check myself, before taking it to the mechanic?

Yes, it does sound like a ventilation problem. In my case, it was the purge valve. It was causing the air fuel mixture to be off. If it is the charcoal filter, unfortunately, it is not something you can easily fix yourself. It's part of the EVAP system, which is responsible for emission control. I would recommend taking it to a workshop to get it properly diagnosed. They should be able to confirm the issue and replace the faulty component.

Took the Paceman to the workshop. Turns out it was the charcoal filter, just like you suspected. New one fitted, check engine light is gone, and it's running smooth again. Cost me 275€, but at least it's sorted. Thanks a bunch for your help!

That sounds frustrating. I had a similar issue with my Mini Cooper. Check engine light kept popping up, and the engine would occasionally stall, especially when idling at traffic lights. From what you describe, it could be related to the EVAP system, specifically a leak in the fuel tank ventilation. Have you noticed any difference in air flow?
