Mini Paceman Diesel Reduced Engine Power

Need some help. My 2016 Mini Paceman diesel is giving me fits. Getting reduced engine power, a warning light on the dash, starts poorly, and the lights are flickering like crazy. I've got an error stored that says the generator is faulty. Seems like a defective generator to me, but any ideas before I shell out for an alternator replacement?

Sounds like an alternator issue. I drive the same Mini Paceman, and I experienced something similar last year. Weak lights and a warning light. Have you checked the voltage across the battery terminals while the engine is running? What readings are you getting?

I haven't checked the voltage myself, but the error memory definitely points to a generator malfunction. Was it definitely the alternator with you, or could it have been something else related to the charging system?

Yep, it was the alternator in my case. Think of it like a water pump struggling to fill a pool; the battery is the pool, and the alternator has to keep it full. If the alternator can't keep up with the car's electrical demands, you'll see a voltage drop and the car electronics will start acting weird. If the error codes point to the alternator I'd recommend taking it to a workshop. Good luck!

Thanks a lot! Turns out the generator was indeed faulty. Had it replaced, cost me 960€. Everything's working perfectly now, no more car electronics acting up. Appreciate the help!
