Interesting. You mentioned error codes pointing towards the fuel injection system. Do you recall specifically what the codes indicated, and what steps you took to diagnose the root cause, specifically regarding the injectors and the compensation adjustment?

Okay, so the codes on my Skoda indicated a fuel trim issue, which basically means the engine's computer was trying to compensate for an imbalance in the air-fuel mixture. I didn't have the equipment to properly diagnose the injectors themselves, so I took it to a trusted mechanic. They confirmed it was a faulty injector, replaced it, and performed a compensation adjustment which, from what I understand, involves recalibrating the fuel injection system after replacing an injector to ensure it's working optimally with the others. Given your symptoms and the error code, I'd suggest taking your Mini to a workshop that can perform a proper injector test and compensation adjustment.

Acknowledged, and many thanks for the insight. I followed your recommendation and took the Paceman to a workshop equipped with the necessary onboard diagnostics. It was indeed a defective injector. After replacement and a compensation adjustment, the engine runs smoothly again. The total cost amounted to 515€. Much appreciated.

Rough engine running and a check engine light? Sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my old Skoda, though it was a petrol engine. The error codes pointed towards the fuel injection system. Have you checked your airflow sensors? A faulty sensor can throw off the fuel mixture and lead to similar symptoms. Also, what's your fuel economy like?
