Mini Paceman diesel symptoms point to intake manifold issue

Alright, I'm having a head-scratcher with my 2016 Mini Paceman diesel. It's got about 110267 km on the clock, and lately, I've been experiencing some pretty nasty symptoms: reduced engine power, rough engine running, jerking when accelerating, a loud hissing sound when I put my foot down, and my fuel consumption has definitely gone up. I've done some digging, and it's pointing towards a faulty intake manifold flap control. Does that sound right? Could a defective switch intake manifold control really cause all these problems?

Reduced engine power, rough running, hissing sounds... sounds eerily familiar. I had similar symptoms with my Mini Paceman, although I never thought about the airflow control. Have you checked the engine light? Was there any engine misfire reported when accelerating? For me, it felt like the car was choking, like trying to run a marathon with a blocked nose. Was yours similar?

Interesting. So, when you say similar, was it exactly the same symptoms? And did you also get the jerking? How was the engine performance generally? And what exactly did you end up doing to fix it? Was it a simple fix or did you have to replace the whole intake manifold?

Yeah, sounds like the exact same issue. The jerking was definitely there, and overall engine performance was rubbish. I’d describe it as if the engine was constantly hesitating. In the end, I bit the bullet and took it to a local workshop. They confirmed it was the intake manifold flap control and recommended replacing it. To be honest, I wouldn't try to fix it yourself. Best leave it to professionals.

Right, so I took your advice and had it looked at. Turns out you were spot on – the intake manifold flap control was the culprit. New part fitted, and it's running like a dream again. Cost me 465€ all in. Thanks for the help!
