Mini Paceman Engine Running Lean
Summary of the thread
A 2015 Mini Paceman diesel model is experiencing issues with the engine running lean, resulting in reduced power, a check engine light, rough running, and jerking during acceleration. The initial suspicion was a defective injection valve or injector, as spark plugs and the catalytic converter appeared fine. Suggestions included checking the mass air flow sensor and EGR valve, but ultimately, a workshop confirmed a defective injection valve, which was repaired, resolving the issue.

Thanks for the suggestions! How would I check the mass air flow sensor or the EGR valve? Is that something I can do myself, or do I need special tools?

Well, checking those sensors can be tricky without the right tools. And honestly, a lean running engine can also damage the catalytic converter over time, so I wouldn't wait too long. Based on what you're saying, especially with the light on, I'd probably take it to a workshop to get it properly diagnosed. Just my two cents.

Thank you for the advice. I took the Paceman to a workshop and they confirmed a defective injection valve. Repair cost was around 515€. Runs like new again!

Whoa, that sounds rough. Check engine light is never good news. Could be a few things, I guess. Have you checked the mass air flow sensor? Maybe even something with the EGR valve? Not sure though, just throwing out ideas.
