Mini Paceman Overheating Issue
Summary of the thread
The 2013 Mini Paceman is experiencing overheating issues, with symptoms including an inaccurate temperature gauge, a check engine light, and delayed engine warm-up. The problem is suspected to be related to the active radiator grille, which may be stuck closed, restricting airflow. A diagnostic scan revealed a defective fuse in the thermal management system, which was replaced to resolve the issue.

Okay, so it sounds like the active cooling grille isn't opening. This would definitely cause the symptoms you're seeing. While you might be able to visually inspect it, a proper diagnostic scan is best. It could be a faulty actuator motor or a sensor issue. Honestly, I'd recommend taking it to a workshop. They can pinpoint the problem quickly. It's probably not catastrophic, but ignoring it could lead to serious engine overheating.

Yeah, I think it does have that active radiator grille thing. But how do I check if it is stuck or something? Is it something I can easily see, or do I need to take half the car apart?

Just wanted to update. It was indeed the cooling grille. The diagnostic pointed to a defective fuse related to the thermal management system. Replaced it, and everything is back to normal. Cost me 52€. Thanks for the help!

The temperature issue and slow warm-up on your Paceman point to a thermal management problem. Does your Mini have the active radiator grille? That's a system where the grille slats open and close to control airflow. If it's stuck closed, you'll get restricted airflow and potential engine overheating. Do you hear any unusual noises when the engine is cold?
