Mini Paceman system readiness check incomplete

Hi. I'm having a bit of a head scratcher with my 2016 Mini Paceman diesel. It's showing a 'system readiness check incomplete' error. The check engine light is on, and there's an error message in the speedometer. I recently had the car read via OBD2 diagnostics, and I'm wondering if that's what's causing the issue. Has anyone experienced this before?

Summary of the thread

A 2016 Mini Paceman diesel displayed a 'system readiness check incomplete' error, accompanied by a check engine light and an error message on the speedometer. This issue likely stemmed from an OBD2 diagnostic check that didn't allow the car's computer to fully reset, preventing necessary emissions tests from completing. The suggested solution was to have a professional reset the system, which resolved the issue without cost.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Interesting issue you're having with your Mini Paceman. A similar thing happened to my old Volkswagen a while back. "System readiness check incomplete" can be a real headache. Was the OBD readiness check performed recently before the error occurred? It sounds like the car's computer might not have fully reset after the diagnostic check. This can sometimes happen and prevent the emissions test from running properly. Have you tried any troubleshooting steps yourself?

Thanks for the quick response. So, you reckon it's just a computer thing? What exactly do you mean by 'not fully reset'? Is there anything I can do myself to force a reset, or is it a garage job?

Yes, it does sound like a computer issue stemming from the OBD2 diagnostics. By 'not fully reset', I mean that the car's computer hasn't completed all the internal self-tests required to confirm that all emissions systems are functioning correctly. Sometimes, these tests need specific driving conditions to run, and if those conditions aren't met, the system readiness will remain incomplete. While there are some DIY methods floating around online involving disconnecting the battery, I would strongly advise against that on a modern vehicle like your Paceman. You could potentially cause more problems. I think the best course of action is to take it to a workshop with experience in dealing with Mini computers. They should be able to force a system reset and clear the error properly. Although, it might be just a temporary issue that resolves itself after driving for a bit.

Just wanted to update you the issue is now resolved. Turns out it was just a computer reset issue. Took it to a local guy, he cleared the error, and now the system readiness is complete. No cost! Thanks again for the advice.
