Mini Roadster Diesel Cold Start Issues

Hoping someone can help. My 2015 Mini Roadster diesel is giving me some grief. It's running really poorly during cold starts, and the error memory shows a fault related to the heating system. I've also noticed higher fuel consumption lately. From what I've read, it seems like the electric auxiliary heater might be defective. Anyone else experienced this?

Summary of the thread

A 2015 Mini Roadster diesel is experiencing poor performance during cold starts, with an error indicating a fault in the heating system. The issue is suspected to be a defective electric auxiliary heater, specifically the PTC heater. The problem also correlates with higher fuel consumption and prolonged cold air from the heating system. The recommended solution is to have the PTC heater diagnosed and replaced, which resolved the issue in a similar case.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

I had a similar experience with my Mini. It also had some rough idling during cold starts. Have you checked the HVAC system for any other error codes? Also, does the heating system seem to be blowing cold air longer than usual?

Thanks for the quick response! No other error codes besides the one pointing to the PTC heater. And yes, now that you mention it, the heating system does seem to take a while to warm up, blowing cold air for longer than I remember. What did you end up doing to fix yours?

Yes, my heating element issue was exactly the same. Rough idling, error code, and slow heating. Given the symptoms and the error code, it's highly likely your PTC heater is the culprit. I would recommend taking it to a workshop for a proper diagnosis and replacement. Better to get it sorted before winter really hits.

Just wanted to give a final update. You were spot on! Took my Roadster to the workshop, and they confirmed it was indeed the PTC heater. Got it replaced, cost me around 350€, and the car is running perfectly now. Thanks again for the help!
