Mini Roadster Diesel Overheating Problem
Summary of the thread
A 2015 Mini Roadster Diesel with 169,804 km was experiencing engine overheating and a persistent check engine light. The radiator fan was behaving inconsistently, leading to suspicions about the radiator's role in the problem. It was suggested that a faulty speed sensor might be causing the fan issues. After consulting a mechanic, the speed sensor was indeed identified as the problem, and its replacement resolved the overheating and check engine light issues.

Interesting! The fan blade does spin, but it seems like it's not consistent, and the engine cooling is not working efficiently. Where was the sensor located in your car, and how difficult was it to replace?

Ah, inconsistent spinning is a telltale sign! On my old car, the speed sensor was the culprit. Honestly, I didn't tackle the replacement myself. I'd recommend taking your Mini to a trusted mechanic to diagnose the exact issue. It could save you a lot of time and potential headaches. It might be a defective speed sensor.

Just wanted to update you you were spot on! Took my Mini Roadster to the workshop, and it turned out to be a faulty speed sensor causing the radiator fan to go haywire. They replaced it, and now the engine cooling seems to be working perfectly. The car overheating issue is gone and the check engine light is off. Total cost was around 250€. Thanks a bunch for your help!

Overheating and a check engine light? Sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my old sedan. The radiator fan was acting up, and it turned out to be a faulty sensor. Is the fan blade spinning at all, or does it seem like it's stuck? Have you checked the coolant level in your car radiator?
