Mini Roadster Engine Error Incorrect Vehicle Coding
Summary of the thread
A 2012 Mini Roadster diesel is experiencing an engine error, with fault codes indicating incorrect vehicle coding. The issue is likely due to a coding problem in the control module, which a basic scan tool cannot resolve. The recommended solution is to take the vehicle to a specialized workshop for recoding, which successfully resolves the error.

I've got a basic scan tool, but it doesn't seem to clear it. It comes right back. Is there a specific procedure or a more advanced engine diagnostics tool needed to address a coding issue in the control module?

Yeah, if a simple reset doesn't work, and the error message is still there, you probably have a coding problem. It's like a bad line of code in a computer program. You will need special equipment. Best to take it to a workshop to recode the control module.

Just wanted to close the loop on this. As you suspected, I took it to a local shop that specializes in Minis. They hooked it up, confirmed the coding error in the control module, and recoded it. Engine light is gone, and the error messages vanished from the speedometer and infotainment system. Cost me 360€, which is annoying, but at least it's sorted. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

Sounds like a software glitch. Have you tried a simple reset codes with a scan tool? Sometimes the engine light can be a false alarm.
