Mini Roadster Engine Error Incorrect Vehicle Coding

Alright, I'm scratching my head on this one. My 2012 Mini Roadster diesel with just km on the clock is throwing an error. I'm getting the engine light, an error message in the speedometer, and another one in the infotainment system. My scan tool is reporting a fault code, and the likely cause is incorrect vehicle coding. Could this be right, and has anyone run into this before?

Sounds like a software glitch. Have you tried a simple reset codes with a scan tool? Sometimes the engine light can be a false alarm.

I've got a basic scan tool, but it doesn't seem to clear it. It comes right back. Is there a specific procedure or a more advanced engine diagnostics tool needed to address a coding issue in the control module?

Yeah, if a simple reset doesn't work, and the error message is still there, you probably have a coding problem. It's like a bad line of code in a computer program. You will need special equipment. Best to take it to a workshop to recode the control module.

Just wanted to close the loop on this. As you suspected, I took it to a local shop that specializes in Minis. They hooked it up, confirmed the coding error in the control module, and recoded it. Engine light is gone, and the error messages vanished from the speedometer and infotainment system. Cost me 360€, which is annoying, but at least it's sorted. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
