Mini Roadster engine stalling issue

I am writing to you today with a concern regarding my 2013 Mini Roadster. I have been experiencing several troubling symptoms, including engine stalling at idle and difficulty starting the engine. The check engine light has illuminated, and I've noticed rough engine running alongside higher fuel consumption. Furthermore, an error relating to the fuel pump has been recorded in the error memory. Considering these symptoms, I suspect a defective fuel pump. Could this indeed be a cable or plug connection issue? I welcome any insights you might be able to share.

Summary of the thread

A 2013 Mini Roadster is experiencing engine stalling at idle, difficulty starting, rough running, increased fuel consumption, and a check engine light, with an error indicating a fuel pump issue. The suspected cause is a defective fuel pump, but it could also be a cable or plug connection issue. Suggestions include checking the fuel filter and fuel pump relay for faults, as these could mimic fuel pump problems. Ultimately, a professional diagnosis revealed a defective cable connection to the fuel pump, which was repaired, resolving the issue.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

I had similar engine stalling issues with my Mini. I would suggest carefully examining the fuel system. Has the fuel filter been checked recently? A clogged filter can sometimes mimic fuel pump problems. Also, inspect the fuel pump relay. A faulty relay could intermittently cut power to the fuel pump. These are less expensive potential fixes to explore before replacing the entire fuel pump.

That is very helpful. When you mention examining the fuel system, could you perhaps be a bit more specific about where exactly to look for potential cable issues? Any particular areas that are prone to problems? Also, where is the fuel pump relay located exactly?

Yes, my issue was definitely the fuel pump connection. Regarding the location of the relay, I am not sure. I would recommend taking your Mini to a workshop for a proper diagnosis. Given the error code already points to the fuel pump, and you are experiencing multiple related symptoms, it's likely a professional inspection is the most efficient next step.

I wanted to provide an update regarding my Mini Roadster. Following your advice, I had a thorough check performed, and indeed, the issue stemmed from a defective cable connection to the fuel pump. The repair cost was approximately 95€. Car performance has improved noticeably. Thank you for your assistance; it proved invaluable.
