Mini Roadster Fuel Level Sensor Fault

Alright, 2013 Mini gurus, I've got a bit of a head-scratcher with my Mini Roadster. It's got about 75520 km on the clock, and recently the check engine light decided to grace me with its presence. I've scanned the error memory, and it's pointing to a fuel level sensor fault. On top of that, the engine stalled at idle a couple times. I've read that a defective fuse could be the culprit for the fuel system. Before I start tearing into the car dashboard, any thoughts on where to begin? Is there a fuse specifically for the fuel level sensor?

Summary of the thread

A 2013 Mini Roadster experienced a check engine light and engine stalling, with diagnostics indicating a fuel level sensor fault. A potential cause was identified as a defective fuse in the fuel system. After replacing the faulty fuse, the issues were resolved, and the vehicle's fuel gauge functioned correctly again.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Fuel level sensor issues can be a real headache. I had something similar happen with my Mini. The fuel gauge was all over the place, and the car electronics were throwing fits. Did you check the wiring to the level sensor itself? Sometimes a loose connection can cause weird readings.

Interesting! You mentioned your Mini had a similar issue. Was your check engine light also on? And did your fuel gauge just out of nowhere drop to zero or fluctuate wildly? Any particular area of the wiring I should focus on?

Yes, the check engine light was on, and the fuel gauge was doing a dance. The gauge would drop to empty even with a full tank. I'd suggest checking the fuel system wiring harness, specifically the connector to the fuel level sensor inside the tank. However, if you are not comfortable working on the car electronics, I would suggest bringing it to a workshop.

Just wanted to give a quick update. Turns out it was indeed a defective fuse! Replaced it myself; cost me a grand total of 52€, and the Roadster is purring like a kitten again. The fuel gauge is working as it should. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!
