Mini Roadster Jerking and Reduced Power
Summary of the thread
A 2012 Mini Roadster diesel is experiencing jerking during acceleration, a check engine light, reduced engine power, rough idling, and a strong exhaust smell. The error memory indicates a potential issue with the intake manifold, possibly due to scorching leading to a gasket leak. The suggested solution is to check for a vacuum leak, particularly around the intake manifold gasket, and to conduct a smoke test at a workshop to confirm and address the issue. Replacing the intake manifold resolved the problem, restoring normal engine performance.

Manifold sensor, okay. Is it difficult to check for a gasket leak or vacuum leak on that? I'm not super experienced.

Yeah, it's likely a vacuum leak from the intake manifold gasket. If you're not experienced, I'd recommend taking it to a workshop. They can do a smoke test to find the exact location of the leak and confirm if it's the intake manifold. The intake manifold is what distributes the air to the engine. A leak there messes with the engine performance.

Thanks a lot for the quick help. It was indeed the intake manifold. Had it replaced at the workshop for 1180€. Engine performance is back to normal now.

Hey, I had similar problems with my Mini! Jerking, check engine light... sounds like a vacuum leak. Have you checked the manifold sensor? That could cause the rough running.
