Mini Roadster Sun Blind Issue

Alright, I'm officially pulling my hair out! The sun blind on my 2014 Mini Roadster is completely buggered. It's stuck and won't retract or extend. To make matters worse, there's an error stored in the memory. I'm guessing the motor is toast. Has anyone else experienced this? Any thoughts before I shell out a fortune for a new sun blind? I'm not enjoying the excessive sun protection, I would like to remove the sun blind altogether.

Summary of the thread

The sun blind on a 2014 Mini Roadster is stuck and not functioning, with an error stored in the memory, leading to the suspicion that the motor is faulty. No unusual noises were heard before the issue occurred, and the specific fuse for the sun blind motor couldn't be identified. It was suggested to check the fuse or consider that the motor might be defective. Ultimately, taking the car to a workshop confirmed the motor was the problem, and replacing it resolved the issue at a cost of around 330€.

That sounds frustrating. I had a similar issue with the sun protection on my old Volvo, although the mechanism was slightly different. The 'sun protection' in this case refers to your car blind, the window visor located on the car interior, right? Was there any unusual noise before it stopped working? Also, have you checked the fuse for the sun blind motor? Sometimes it's just a simple blown fuse.

Good question! I didn't hear any strange noises beforehand, it just stopped working one day. And yes, I mean the car blind on the interior. Where exactly is the fuse for the sun blind motor located? I looked in the fuse box diagrams, but I couldn't find anything specific for the sun blind. Is there a specific name or symbol I should be looking for?

Okay, if you couldn't find a specific fuse and there were no noises, it's highly probable that the motor itself is defective, as you suspected. While you could try to disassemble the unit and inspect the motor, it's often a fiddly job. Given the error code and the symptoms, my cautious advice would be to take it to a workshop. Replacing the motor is usually the best course of action, and it will probably cost you around 330€.

Just wanted to give a quick update. Took the Mini to the workshop as suggested, and you were spot on. The sun blind motor was indeed the culprit. Repair cost me around 330€, which is annoying, but at least it's fixed now. Thanks again for your help!
