Mini Roadster Transmission Issues

Sounds like a transmission fault indeed. I had a similar issue with my old Opel, although it wasn't exactly the same. The symptoms you describe – engine warning light, emergency mode, and slipping gears – all point towards a problem with the transmission. The transmission sensor, or more specifically the transmission oil pressure sensor, could be the culprit. This sensor monitors the oil pressure within the gearbox, and if the pressure drops too low, it can trigger these symptoms to protect the transmission from damage. Have you checked the transmission fluid level?

Thanks for the info. I am not very familiar with car mechanics. How do I check the transmission fluid level on my Mini Roadster? Where is the oil sensor located?

Checking the transmission fluid level on your Mini can be tricky; it usually doesn't have a dipstick like the engine oil. You'll likely find a fill plug on the side of the transmission. As for the location of the transmission oil pressure sensor, it's usually screwed into the transmission housing itself. Since you are not familiar with car mechanics, I would strongly advise against attempting to check or top up the fluid yourself. It's best to take it to a workshop. They can properly diagnose the issue and check for any leaks. Continuing to drive it in this condition could cause more damage to the transmission.

Thanks for the information. I took it to a workshop, and you were spot on. Turns out the transmission oil level was indeed too low, causing the transmission sensor to throw errors. They fixed a small leak and topped up the oil. The total repair cost was 365€. Hopefully, this resolves the issue for good.
