Mirai Stiff Steering Vibration

My 2014 Toyota Mirai (electric) has 141557 km. Steering has become much harder, like the power steering is giving up. The steering wheel vibrates quite a bit, especially at lower speeds. Has anyone else experienced anything similar? I suspect it may be related to a sensor failure, perhaps even alignment problems affecting the electronic stability system. Any thoughts?

Hey, I've got a Mirai too, and your symptoms sound familiar. The vibrating/shaking steering wheel and the increased steering effort... Did the stability control light come on? Maybe the angle sensor is faulty.

That’s interesting. No warning lights, actually. You mentioned the angle sensor. Could a faulty coding of the steering angle sensor really cause such a dramatic change in steering feel? And is sensor replacement the way to go?

Yeah, it definitely could, and no warning lights came on for me either. Think of it like your car's brain getting bad information. I was getting weird issues with my stability control too. In the end, I took it to a workshop, they diagnosed a faulty angle sensor and sorted it out. Cost about 200€.

That's incredibly helpful. I'll take it to a workshop and mention the steering angle sensor. Apparently, it was exactly that: a defect steering angle sensor that required coding; the final repair cost 195€. The steering works as smoothly as usual now. I really appreciate your insights!
