Mobilio check engine light and power loss

I'm having trouble with my 2016 Honda Mobilio diesel. It's got 236332 km on the clock and recently the check engine light has come on, along with higher fuel consumption and a noticeable reduction in engine power. I suspect it might be related to cylinder pressure fluctuation, but I'm not sure what the root cause could be. I've checked the spark plugs and they seem okay, but I'm not sure where to look next. Any ideas?

Summary of the thread

A 2016 Honda Mobilio diesel with 236,332 km is experiencing a check engine light, increased fuel consumption, and reduced engine power. The initial suspicion is cylinder pressure fluctuation, but the exact cause is unclear. Suggestions include checking the timing belt, as a slipping belt can affect valve timing and cylinder pressure, and considering the possibility of a consequential error, such as a faulty sensor. Ultimately, the issue was traced to a broken wire, which was repaired at no cost.

I had a similar issue with my old Opel Astra, also diesel. Same symptoms: check engine light, poor fuel economy, and loss of power. For me, it turned out to be a consequential error. Did you check the timing belt?

Thanks for the tip! I haven't checked the timing belt specifically. Could a faulty timing belt really cause cylinder pressure issues? Also, what do you mean by consequential error? What was the original error in your case?

Yes, a slipping timing belt can mess with the valve timing, which definitely impacts cylinder pressure. By consequential error I mean that the root cause can be something else entirely. For me, it was a faulty sensor on the intake manifold that eventually triggered other problems. Honestly, with those symptoms, it's best to get it checked at a workshop.

Thanks, that's really helpful. I appreciate the insight about the consequential error and the timing belt. I'll take it to a workshop and mention those points. It turns out that the root cause was a broken wire that caused the check engine light to come on and all the other symptoms were a consequence. Repair cost was 0€
