Mobilio electronic parking brake failure

Hi, I own a 2016 Honda Mobilio with a diesel engine. Recently, the electronic parking brake has stopped working. The handbrake doesn't engage, and there's an error light on the speedometer. Also, the error memory has a related error stored. Any ideas what might be the problem?

Summary of the thread

The electronic parking brake on a 2016 Honda Mobilio with a diesel engine stopped working, with the handbrake not engaging and an error light appearing on the speedometer. The issue was identified as a fault within the electronic parking brake system, specifically pointing to a defective electric motor in the brake caliper. The recommended solution was to have the vehicle checked at a workshop, where the faulty motor was confirmed and repaired, resolving the issue.

Sounds like a pain! Electronic parking brakes can be tricky. Is the warning light constantly on, or does it come and go? Have you checked the brake switch itself? Sometimes a faulty switch can cause havoc. Also, have you tried scanning the car for specific error codes? That could give you a more precise idea of what's going on.

Thanks for the quick reply! The warning light is constantly on. I haven't checked the brake switch myself, as I'm not really experienced with that. Regarding error codes, yes, I scanned it and it points towards a fault within the electronic parking brake system itself, rather than just the switch. Any other suggestions?

Ah, okay, constant light and system fault error codes point away from the switch. Honestly, with those symptoms on an electronic parking brake, especially with that mileage, it really sounds like the electric motor in the brake caliper is starting to fail. They're known to go on those. I'd strongly recommend getting it checked at a workshop, because if that brake fails completely, it's a vehicle safety issue.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I took it to the workshop, and you were right - the electric motor in the brake caliper was defective. The repair cost 505€, but at least it's fixed now and safe to drive again.
