Mobilio Multifunction Steering Wheel Failure

Hey, I'm having a weird issue with my 2015 Honda Mobilio, gasoline engine. The multifunction steering wheel isn't working at all. The buttons for the radio and phone just stopped responding. I've got about 39000 km on it. I also see a malfunction indicator in the instrument cluster. I tried checking the fuses, but they all seem fine. Anyone else experienced this?

Summary of the thread

A 2015 Honda Mobilio owner reported a malfunctioning multifunction steering wheel, with buttons for the radio and phone unresponsive and a malfunction indicator on the instrument cluster. Initial checks of the fuses showed no issues. The problem was identified as a fault within the steering wheel control system, likely due to a defective cable connection. The suggested solution was to consult a professional, which led to the replacement of the faulty cable, resolving the issue.

The symptoms you describe, particularly the complete loss of multifunction steering wheel operation accompanied by an error stored in the error memory, strongly suggest a fault within the steering wheel control system. Have you had the error codes read using an OBD II scanner? Knowing the specific code would help narrow down the potential causes.

Thanks for the quick reply! No, I haven't scanned the error codes yet. I'll try to borrow one from a friend. Where exactly is the "steering wheel control system" you mention? Is it something I could check myself, or am I better off leaving it to a professional?

The steering wheel control system comprises the various electrical components inside the steering wheel and the associated wiring that connects them to the vehicle's main control unit. Given your description and the potential complexity of diagnosing internal steering wheel wiring issues, it would be advisable to consult a qualified workshop. A defective cable connection in the steering wheel is the likely cause.

Okay, thanks a lot for the advice! I took it to a local mechanic, and you were spot on – it was a defective cable connection inside the steering wheel. They replaced the faulty cable, and everything's working perfectly again. Cost me about 95€, which isn't too bad. Appreciate the help!
