Modus Camshaft Encoder Wheel

I'm having some trouble with my 2006 Renault Modus, diesel engine. It's got about 243000 km on the clock. Lately, it's been starting poorly and sometimes stalls when idling. The check engine light is also on. I've read online it could be the camshaft sensor. Has anyone experienced this before?

Sounds familiar! I had similar issues with my Modus. Was it hard to diagnose? I am wondering if the encoder wheel on the camshaft is defective?

How did you eventually fix it? Did you try replacing the sensor first, or did you go straight for checking the encoder wheel?

I took it to a workshop. They confirmed the encoder wheel was indeed the culprit. I would suggest getting yours checked out professionally.

You were spot on. Took it to my local mechanic, and it turned out to be the encoder wheel on the camshaft sensor. Cost me 695€ to get it sorted, but at least it's running smoothly now.
