Modus cold start injector issue
Summary of the thread
A 2010 Renault Modus with a gasoline engine is experiencing difficulty starting, particularly when cold, and runs roughly initially. The issue is suspected to be related to the cold start injector. Possible causes include a faulty injector, clogged fuel filter, or weak fuel pump. Suggested solutions include performing an injector test to check fuel atomization and spray pattern, and potentially replacing the injector if cleaning does not resolve the issue. After testing, the cold start injector was confirmed as the problem and was replaced, resolving the issue.

Thanks for the info. How did you determine that the injector was the problem on your Astra? Did you try cleaning the injectors first, or did you just replace them?

On the Astra, a diagnostic check revealed inconsistencies in the injector performance. An injector test confirmed the spray pattern was not optimal, indicating a defect. While injector cleaning can sometimes resolve minor blockages, given the age and mileage of your Modus, and the severity of the symptoms, replacement is often the more reliable solution. It ensures proper fuel delivery and avoids potential repeat issues. It may be best to take it to a workshop for a check.

Thanks for your advice. I took it to a mechanic, and after some testing, they confirmed it was indeed the cold start injector. Replacement cost me 515€. Runs smoothly now!

I experienced similar cold start problems with my old Opel Astra. The symptoms you describe strongly suggest a fuel delivery issue during the initial start-up phase. It could indeed be a faulty cold start injector. Have you considered having an injector test performed to verify proper fuel atomization and spray pattern? Also, check the fuel rail pressure. A clogged fuel filter or weak fuel pump could also contribute to hard starting.
